Два компромиссных соглашения о судьбе Панамского канала [ Panama Canal] - договоры о Панамском канале и о постоянном нейтралитете и функционировании канала, подписанные США и Панамой 7 сентября 1977. Ратифицированы Сенатом США [ Senate, U.S.] в 1978, в Панаме одобрены на плебисците в 1977. Предусматривали денонсацию всех ранее заключенных по каналу договоров и соглашений, ликвидацию Зоны канала [ Panama Canal Zone], упразднение соответствующих административно-правовых органов США, вывод американских войск до 31 декабря 1999, увеличение ежегодной платы Панаме за пользование каналом, а также постоянный нейтралитет канала, за сохранение которого несут ответственность обе страныEnglish-Russian dictionary of regional studies > Panama Canal treaties

истЧасть территории Панамы, находившаяся под юрисдикцией СШАж пересекает Панамский перешеек. Ширина Зоны около 10 миль. Площадь - 1,4 тыс. кв. км. Население - 45 тыс. человек. В 1903 Колумбия, которой принадлежал перешеек, отказалась подписать договор с США о строительстве канала. 3 ноября в ходе восстания возникло новое государство Панама, которое провозгласило независимость от Колумбии; войска США сдержали попытку Колумбии подавить восстание силой, и уже 6 ноября Панама была официально признана США. В тот же день был подписан договор о строительстве канала и передаче его зоны в бессрочную аренду США со статусом правами экстерриториальности. В 1914 канал был введен в эксплуатацию.
